International Student Welcome at Taronga

Against the breathtaking backdrop of Sydney Harbour, first-time international students were given a truly unforgettable introduction to their Australian journey. The International Student Welcome—held at the iconic Taronga Zoo—offered more than just orientation; it was a celebration of global diversity, connection, and belonging.

Surrounded by native wildlife and exotic species from across the globe, students from dozens of countries came together in a space that was both uniquely Australian and globally inclusive. From the roar of the lions to the call of the kookaburras, the setting itself became a living symbol of what this gathering stood for: the beauty of difference, the strength of community, and the shared adventure of learning across cultures.

The event welcomed new international students from across NSW's university and tertiary sector, providing opportunities to meet peers, connect with support services, and explore what student life has to offer. Guided by campus staff, student ambassadors, and faculty representatives, attendees were introduced to everything from academic resources to social programs—helping ease the transition into life in Australia.

But more than just information, the International Student Welcome was about building community. Through games, conversations, cultural activities, and plenty of photo-worthy moments with kangaroos and koalas, students began forming friendships and networks that will carry them through their studies and beyond.

At Taronga, the world quite literally came together—not only to celebrate a new chapter in education, but to affirm values of inclusion, sustainability, and global citizenship. For many students, it wasn’t just a welcome event—it was the start of something bigger.

A new home. A new community. And a new story—beginning with the world at their feet.
